Breaking The Gender Stereotype With Ki & Ka (2016)

Ki & Ka which the meaning is Her & Him is a Hindi romantic comedy film starring Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor that was written, directed and produced by R. Balki.

A little bit of summary

This film tells the story of a young married couple contradicting the gender roles placed upon women and men in Indian society, by making the man a stay-at-home husband and the woman a working professional.

I definitely love this movie and I can rate this a 10/10 straight away without having a second doubt! In my opinion, the writer and director of this film tried to touch a not-so-new issue I can say, showing that a woman named Kia is a goal oriented working woman who married to a man named Kabir that is more interested in putting his efforts in managing home rather than just be in a money race of success.

I really like the way how the emotions are put into this story. A slight touch of love, compassion and friendship between the two husband and wife, the supportive mother in law and many others. Overall, Ki & Ka is a cleverly designed film that wraps up all the emotions.

Though it has strong performances by both Arjun and Kareena, I still have the thought that the film is bound to draw extreme reactions from the orthodox audiences who may find the premise difficult to digest. I personally think that this kind of movie need to be produced more in order to create more awareness and highlight that feminine and masculine is totally the same in terms of equality.
